Why Kids that Go to Preschool are at an Advantage

Many parents believe that preschool is the best decision that they could have possibly made for their child. This is because it put them at an advantage when they started kindergarten. Most kindergarten teachers will agree that the children that have a background in preschool know a bit more than those that did not have that same opportunity. The good news is that even if you cannot afford to send your children to preschool you may still be able to teach them the important concepts that will still put them at an advantage over the other kids that may not have had that same teaching before school started.

Better Social Skills

One of the advantages that they will see is that the children who were involved in preschool are better with their social skills than the children who did not have any preschool experience. In the preschool setting, it is much like a kindergarten class. There is a group of children around the same age and a teacher, and possibly an assistant teacher. The teacher will teach basic concepts to the children just as they would in a kindergarten setting. This means that when they start kindergarten, they already know how to behave in this type setting without much discipline or correction. They will also be better able to share and socialize with other children because they are used to it in preschool.

A Head Start on Basic Concepts

Another advantage is that they will have a head start on the basic concepts that are taught in kindergarten. For instance, they will more than likely already know all of their letters and numbers. They may even be able to read short sight words. Some preschoolers can even read short books. If they head into kindergarten already knowing how to read a little, then it makes it easier on the kindergarten teacher as well.

Aside from letters, numbers and reading, they will also know all of their colors and shapes. Learning about colors and shapes in preschool is made fun and exciting by using certain fun games and activities to aid the teacher in the process of teaching the students in the classroom. Most preschool age children love games, and they will not even realize that they are learning while they are playing. This can be a great way to get them ahead of the game.

Look for a Preschool for Your Child

As you can see, preschool offers a lot of different advantages to children. If you have not really considered preschool, then you will want to do that soon. There is bound to be a convenient and affordable preschool in your area that you and your children are sure to love. Make sure that you visit them ahead of time to get more information about the classrooms and what is taught. You may even want to get started teaching your child some of these basic concepts from your own home.
