Guide To Preschool At Home

Just as some parents choose to home school their children throughout grade school, some even choose to start teaching preschool concepts at home. There are many things that may go through your head as you prepare to start teaching your child at home. Home school requires a lot of effort, but there are quite a few things that can help make it a lot easier. The first thing that will help to make it easier is to follow a guide to make sure that you have everything that you need in order to prepare to start teaching your child. Here are some things that you will want to stock up on before you start teaching your child preschool concepts at home. This is great even if you don’t plan to home school beyond preschool.

Get Lots of Preschool Age Books

The first thing that you will want to do is pick up as many preschool age books as you possibly can. You can order books online, or you can check your local used book store and get some great deals on many of the books that the children will love. You could even make an at home library somewhere in your house. Have the child pick out books and read them to them. You can also start working on teaching them short sight words. There are a variety of sight word books out there that will help you get started. Just be sure to read to your child often, because they will pick up on it and see that reading is a fundamental of life and they will even start to enjoy it.

Another thing that you can do is visit your local library. You can check out books for your child, and many times go to story time each week where a guest comes to read books to the children that are in attendance. You can make this a weekly field trip that they will grow to love. Just make going to the library something that they enjoy and not a chore.

Get a Few Educational Board Games

Board games are yet another way to make learning fun for children. They will learn to count and add by playing simple games. You can also test their memory by getting memory matching games. This is really fun for them, and at the same time they will be learning something. Get several games that focus on different elements of learning, and play them often each week.

Blocks and other Manipulatives

Most preschools stock up on manipulatives that help to teach the children elements of math. You can use blocks for this easily. Have them stack the blocks into sets and then ask them to count them for you. This will get them started with counting and will also help you to teach them problem solving techniques. Either way, these are great to have around the house for fun educational games and learning experiences. Make learning math fun for your preschooler.
